"WANTED Young, skinny, wiry fellows not over eighteen. Must be expert riders willing to risk death daily. Orphans preferred." - California newspaper positions vacant ad, 1860

Unlike the Pony Express, NOVA does not give preference to orphans; however, many people are attracted to work in the Disability Employment Network because they feel it will give them a chance to help others. It will - and it is also a hard demanding job that requires an enormous personal commitment.

Before you consider applying read the duty statement.

Read it again.

We are looking for people who interested in supporting people to the extent that they will, if and when required, put other person's interests before their own.

Many people apply to work at NOVA and we only offer employment to a small minority

If you get through the recruitment process:
  • You will need to be intelligent, resourceful mature and kind.
  • You must be organised, determined and possess a can-do approach.
  • You must be able to use your initiative.

  • Have a look at the mission statement and values (bottom of page and duty statement) you will need to be comfortable with both the job and our organisational values.

If you are interested in the pay there’s a spreadsheet at the bottom of the page.

We do not negotiate on pay or conditions with anyone other than NOVA employees – you have to prove yourself – there aren’t any exceptions (we do recognise previous experience in an identical role).

We offer you the chance to have that experience recognised with an unparalleled professional development program, linked to your ability and performance, that provides (as a minimum) support and training leading to formal qualification in disability work.

    What training is available?
New workers spend their first week of employment at NOVA - St Marys undertaking an exhaustive introduction to employment for people who have a disability (click here to view the program outline). New workers are assigned an experienced Employment Consultant Mentor who then shows theory in practice - demonstrating and reinforcing the things learned during 1st week induction.

The next 3 months is worked under the supervision of our experienced outlet managers who follow a formal training program that 'fast-tracks' your ability to service NOVA's jobseekers' needs.

After 3 months service (unless you already have this qualification) our in-house Registered Training Organisation will enrol you in Cert IV in Disability Work and support you to achieve this qualification.

Each year all workers participate in 6 days professional development (in addition to program outlined above). This enables you to meet all members of the team and be kept current with industry best practice.

Depending upon your ability and performance you will be offered additional training and responsibility that can lead to management within NOVA or make you the best candidate for career development and growth with other disability programs.

    Training Overview:
