If you want to make money from the new disability employment services contract you can’t possibly offer more than x% post placement support – post placement support is labour intensive and with this in mind some of our new chums involved in the transition process are seeking ways to avoid the burden of giving post placement support to workers transitioning from programs prepared to carry out this vital role
Since (see previous post) the transition process is going simply swimmingly the following should be viewed as allegorical:

Jane requires a high level of ongoing support – she has a moderate intellectual disability. Her employer loves her, her family are delighted to have the work and Jane is in heaven to be participating in the role she’s held for almost 2 years.
She is ‘transitioned’.
Employer terminated this young woman’s job due to the fact that during the winter months it is unsafe for Jane to continue without supervision. The employer stated that the new provider would not support him or Jane to the level that they needed. You might think that was rubbish – we did - until we spoke to the new provider. The new service had looked at teh level of support required and refused to meet with the employer. AVON (departing provider) staff jumped up and down – no dice.
Since this provider doesn’t want people with high support needs on their caseload they then attempted to have a new Job Capacity Assessment conducted that would have given the worker a capacity of 0-7 hrs. per week. If you are without scruple you can ask the person the right questions to ensure that the ESAt writes 0-7 in future with intervention and therefore not suitable for Open employment. Thereby delegating this persons future employment prospects to a sheltered workshop.
The new provider stated openly that they would send her for another JCA and get her level of participation back to 0-7.
There are no penalties or sanctions for these actions.
AVON staff (what’s left of them) salvaged the job and introduced another provider who WILL do the support required. We are now under threat from the first provider that they will complain to the funding body – they don’t want a competitor to get the credit for the ongoing employment they aren’t prepared to support.

* Why 'beating DEEWR? Because I do believe (truly) that the funding body want the best for job seekers they just aren't fast responders and had rings run round them in last contract ending in massive reward for absent morality

Today marks the first day of a new Disability Employment Service (DES) contract.
There are new players and new rules....
'It's nice to be busy' and 'busy is better than idle' and all of my mum's other sayings about work being good for you, and all of them said; we're drowning!
The administrative burden of a new Disability Employment Service contract (starts July 1st) and the mountains of paperwork required for an NDIS dollar (approximately 10X that of the former TTW program) has seen us add 3 extra staff to the admin team and we are still receiving a large volume of enquiries that are causing us some time delay in getting back to folk....
