For those readers not resident in Australia I’m sure wherever you are is nice too and our bit is magnificent!
I have the best job on the planet working alongside some inspiring people (job seekers and staff).
It’s the start of summer and we are in that place between the heat of summer and the cool of winter when the air is crystal clear and the gentle breeze blows the scent of the spring flowers and….
It’s Focus on Ability time (www.focusonability.com.au) !
This year the competition is the biggest ever and the quality and content of the films are both inspirational and informative. It takes about 4 hours to see them all – do! I did (and I cried a couple of times) and it was time very well spent.
Forgive me if I am a film or 2 out and we have some 42 finalists lined up for judging prior to the event itself – Fox Studios on the 18th of October. Apart from a star studded line-up of special guests, film makers and actors, family friends and interested others there’s me and my crew – what more could you want?
A couple of questions I should answer:
How will we allocate seats??
Truthfully we don’t know ourselves yet but we believe we may be seriously oversubscribed, we promise to contact all entrants to let them know how many spots they can have!
Out of State/overseas finalists?
Final 5 entrants will be offered airfares and accommodation for 2 people for the night of the awards.
And a final comment: The winning films are decided by either our panel of expert judges OR… by your votes – so if you love a film get voting and can I suggest you use social media as your means of spreading the word and adding to your favourites voting tally.
Day 1 saw nearly 600 votes cast and they most certainly were not evenly spread! If you want to see your favourite win you can rely upon the wisdom of our judges or you can get voting.
Finally: NOVA staff do not vote and are unable to influence the final outcome other than the ‘NOVA prize’.

The administrative burden of a new Disability Employment Service contract (starts July 1st) and the mountains of paperwork required for an NDIS dollar (approximately 10X that of the former TTW program) has seen us add 3 extra staff to the admin team and we are still receiving a large volume of enquiries that are causing us some time delay in getting back to folk....
